INPUT MODEL

Project assumptions

Enter your project data to begin. No sample values are provided. Enter actual site, tariff, equipment and cost assumptions. Enter 0 where an item does not apply. Results appear after the required inputs are complete.
Understand the model before using the resultsThis is a constant-load feasibility screening model, not an interval dispatch simulation or a final engineering design. Hybrid mode sizes for the larger of peak-shaving and backup duties; it does not reserve additional backup energy while peak shaving. Generator displacement is an independent user-entered annual energy assumption, not a dispatch forecast. Confirm sufficient charging time, source energy, annual throughput and OEM warranty limits. Demand savings assume the entered kW reduction is achieved in every billed month under your applicable tariff. O&M is held constant; escalation applies to gross benefits. No financing, income tax, salvage value or separately modelled auxiliary consumption is included. Enter efficiency and costs on a consistent system boundary.

Project details

Use PKR, USD, AED, SAR or another short currency code. Cost inputs below use this currency.

1. Duty & load

Used for energy-shifting value. Monthly demand-charge savings are modeled separately.
Enter additional AC energy not already counted in peak-shaving dispatch. Charging energy is costed at the entered off-peak tariff.

2. Battery & PCS

Used for charging-energy cost and arbitrage calculations.
Used for nominal battery-energy sizing. Use the OEM AC-output efficiency where available.

3. Tariff & generator

Assumes the target demand is achieved in each of 12 billing months. Utility ratchets and TOU demand windows are not modeled.

4. CAPEX & finance

Held constant in nominal currency unless you embed escalation in this assumption externally.
Use a discount rate consistent with the escalation basis: nominal with nominal escalation, or real with real escalation.
Enter 0 for no replacement. A replacement resets battery SOH from the following year.

5. Electrical interface

Results use only the values you enter.

Transparent engineering, not a black box

ENERGY

Usable MWh

Delivered AC energy is converted to nominal DC battery energy using the entered usable DoD and one-way discharge efficiency, then rounded up to the selected block/container size.

POWER

PCS & C-rate

PCS follows the discharge duty plus margin. Battery MWh is then sized to satisfy both the discharge-duration requirement and the entered continuous C-rate limit at PCS nameplate.

ECONOMICS

Tariff + MDI + genset

Energy spread, demand-charge reduction and optional generator displacement remain separate so double counting is easier to spot.

METHODOLOGY & REFERENCES

Independent references behind the calculation approach

These references support the engineering terminology, performance metrics, lifecycle treatment and BESS integration methodology used by this screening calculator. They do not validate individual project results or prescribe tariffs, CAPEX or equipment assumptions. No sample values are provided; enter actual site, tariff, cost and OEM data.

NREL · TECHNO-ECONOMICS

Battery degradation, replacement and financial modelling

NREL battery modelling work explicitly treats capacity fade, scheduled battery replacement and replacement CAPEX over the analysis period. NREL techno-economic studies also distinguish battery energy, power and AC round-trip efficiency assumptions.

Preliminary feasibility only. Economics are unlevered and pre-tax unless your inputs explicitly include financing or taxes; no salvage value is assumed. Final BESS, PCS, transformer, switchgear, protection, cable, earthing, fire-safety, controls and interconnection design must be verified against actual interval load data, tariff rules, OEM limits, utility requirements and applicable standards.
